Cis people are the shrinks that get to decide whether or not a person is “really trans*”, who get to tell us the validity of our own identities.

I am hairy like ferret.
You seem to think that just because I’m “young” that I haven’t thought this through, but I have to live every day thinking about how I’m misgendered and disrespected. I have to live every day knowing that when I look in a mirror I won’t like what I see. You seriously think I haven’t thought about it? When you’re stuck in a wrong body, call me and tell me how little you think about changing it. Until then, please shut up and let me do what I want with my own body.

“The MAN Who Wins Beauty Pageants”
Ryder and I are supposed to have a story about our transitions and our relationship in Reveal Magazine later this month. When we saw this cover of Reveal this morning we were outraged.
We emailed our point-of-contact for the magazine immediately and he called us to assure us our own article would not be sensationalized or sexualized. He did not ease our fears or outrage at all.
Ryder and I refuse to be martyr’s and victims so that this magazine can sell more issues. We are waiting to hear from the editor of the magazine next week so that we can decide if we will allow them to run our story or not.
How they handle the outrage and call for a retraction will determine if we allow them to use our story in their next issue.Ry and I will be looking to consult with Transgender Media Watch (@TransMediaWatch) on how to go forward in dealing with Reveal Magazine. They have already violated our trust and our story hasn’t even run yet.

It is interesting to dissect how certain mannerisms of mine are a direct result of intense bullying from my family, and, to a lesser extent, classmates. I’m naturally an introvert, but I think it has been twisted into something more pathological.
I always try to move as quietly as possible, and I have to consciously decide to take up more space. I am inclined to curl up, cross my limbs, shift around people, even sit on the floor, etc., rather than take up an inch more space than possible. Making noise genuinely makes me anxious. Why? Because I don’t want to draw attention to myself. I don’t want to be screamed at or harassed once people see me with the temerity to take up space.
Yet at the same time, being quiet and “dainty” is coded as feminine. I feel like I am obligated to spread myself out, and move in a very confident and dominant manner when out in public if I want to be read as a guy.
My voice is very monotonous. I used to be teased for being too excitable and “emotional”. I find myself often trying not to speak in public for fear of being fun of. Too high-pitched, too soft and feminine, whatever. I didn’t use to think of it in terms of gender. I was just avoiding being hassled and being made anxious by strangers or classmates.
The same with my clothes, wearing baggy pants or layers to hide curves that were ugly on me and attracted bullies and harassment. Something I wasn’t even conscious of in terms of gender, although I was desperate to wear “boy’s” clothes and not be seen as feminine.
Being feminine meant being a nerd, weak, someone who deserved violence. That’s what I experienced it as, as a kid and young adult. It meant being pretty for other people, glamorous, sexy, powerful…but for me, it might being ugly, weak, a freak. It was connected with being bullied and treated as out of place.
At the same time, I was also forced into submissive behaviours that others read as feminine to avoid unwanted (aka ANY) attention. Over the past 7 years, I’ve had to unlearn them and stop being so terrified of standing out. I feel like a huge part of my transition, the biggest changes, have been in terms of confidence, and overcoming this terrible fear of being a “freak” and harassed if I was recognized publicly as male.
It is still a huge issue for me. Sometimes my anxiety still keeps me from doing things I need to, but I think I’m a lot healthier now in terms of it.
You know that feeling when you have a cold and a whole bunch of shit is just stuck in your chest and everytime you cough it feels like you inhaled a box of rusty nails?
This is another good caricature of a hyena.

If you’re more offended by “die cis scum” than by people dying and being constantly abused, harassed, and threatened for simply existing, then you are no ally. Learn that cis does not automatically equal “cis scum.”
